Grant Making at Women Fund Tanzania Trust (WFTT)
Our Approach
WFT funds grassroots initiatives and community-based organizations that promote women’s rights and gender equality across Tanzania. We invest in local organizations to create lasting change in areas like women’s leadership, economic empowerment, and health.
Thematic Focus

Ending Violence Against Women, Girls, and Children
Focus on tackling all forms of gender-based violence, harmful practices, and promoting educational justice for girls. -
Women’s Political Participation and Leadership
Addressing systemic barriers to women’s leadership and participation in political processes. -
Economic Justice and Sustainability
Breaking barriers limiting women’s participation in key economic sectors and promoting financial inclusion. -
Environmental Justice and Gender
Advocating for women’s rights in climate change and land rights decisions. -
Feminist Research and Documentation
Using research to challenge gender inequalities and amplify women’s voices through multimedia platforms. -
Sports, Popular Art, and Culture
Transforming policies and norms that exclude women from sports and cultural activities. -
Reproductive Health Rights
Supporting feminist approaches to reproductive health, focusing on marginalized groups. -
Movement Building and Strengthening
Promoting feminist movement-building through inclusive, intersectional approaches.
Grant Application Windows
- Small Scale Window
- Duration: 0–3 months
- Focus: Grassroots projects amplifying marginalized women’s voices
- Ideal for first-time applicants
- Medium Scale Window
- Duration: 6 months–1 year
- Focus: Strengthening organizational capacities and networks for women’s rights initiatives
- Strategic Window
- Duration: Up to 2 years
- Focus: Feminist movement-building and institutional strengthening
What We Are Looking For
- Mission Aligned: Proposals should align with WFTT’s mission and thematic areas.
- Clarity on Issues: Clear problem identification, measurable outcomes, and multi-stakeholder involvement.
- Sustainability: Proposals should demonstrate sustainability, innovation, and potential for scale.
- Strategic Use of Events: Leverage local and international events to amplify projects.
Eligibility
- Legally registered entities: WROs, WOs, community-based groups, or coalitions.
- Demonstrated competencies in implementing projects.
- Strong record in financial and programmatic management.
- Grounded in rights-based approaches.
- Women-led organizations with a majority of women in leadership.
